To add your Canvas calendar to Outlook, open Calendar in Canvas, click Calendar Feed and copy the link. Then, in Outlook on the web, open your calendar, select Add calendar, choose Subscribe from web, paste the link and select Import. Your Canvas events and assignments appear as a calendar of their own. Outlook refreshes it on its own schedule: Microsoft says about every 3 hours for a personal account and every 6 for a school one, and sometimes longer than a day.

## Add Canvas to Outlook on the web

This works on outlook.com with a personal Microsoft account, and in Outlook on the web with your school account. It is also the most reliable way, for a reason the Outlook app section below explains.

1. Sign in to Canvas and click Calendar in the global navigation menu.
2. In the sidebar of the calendar, click Calendar Feed.
3. Copy the link in the URL field.
4. Sign in to Outlook on the web and open Calendar.
5. Select Add calendar, then Subscribe from web.
6. Paste your Canvas link, give the calendar a name if you like, and select Import. On a school account, select Save as well.

To remove it later, find the calendar in your calendar list, open its More options menu and choose Remove.

## Add Canvas to the Outlook app on Windows

In the new Outlook for Windows:

1. Open Calendar and select Add Calendar.
2. Choose Subscribe from web, paste your Canvas link and select Import.

In classic Outlook:

1. Open Calendar, and in the Manage Calendars group select Open Calendar.
2. Choose From Internet, paste your Canvas link and select OK.

Microsoft notes that with some calendar servers either app closes the window and adds nothing, without an error. If that happens, add the link in Outlook on the web instead. The calendar then shows up in the app too, under Other Calendars.

## What the Canvas feed leaves out

- Changes are not instant. Microsoft says a subscribed calendar updates about every 3 hours on a personal account and every 6 on a work or school one, and that it can take more than 24 hours. Instructure gives the same 24 hours as its upper bound.
- It covers a window. Instructure says the feed includes events from the past 30 days and up to 366 days ahead, and no more than 1,000 items.
- Canvas To Do items are not included.
- A course you join later is not added on its own. Instructure says to import the feed again after you enroll in a new course, so plan to redo the steps each term.
- It is Canvas only. A class on another course site needs that site's own feed, if it has one.

## Breezy and Outlook

Breezy is a browser extension and study workspace that reads your courses with the sign-in your browser already has. It cannot put due dates into Outlook: it writes only to Google Calendar and Apple Calendar, and it has no feed link of its own to subscribe to. If Outlook is where you live, the Canvas feed above is the way in.

What Breezy can do instead:

- Keep the assignment due dates from every course site it reads on its own calendar, side by side, with day, week and month views. The [student planner](https://breezycourses.com/student-planner) page covers what lands there.
- Write Canvas due dates into [Google Calendar](https://breezycourses.com/blog/canvas-calendar-to-google-calendar) or [Apple Calendar](https://breezycourses.com/blog/canvas-calendar-to-apple-calendar), updated after every sync, if you use either of those as well.

[Breezy for Canvas](https://breezycourses.com/integrations/canvas) lists everything it reads from Canvas.

## Troubleshooting

- Nothing from Canvas shows up. Check that you pasted the Calendar Feed link and chose Subscribe from web rather than Upload from file, and that you are looking at the account you added it to. Then give Outlook time to fetch it.
- The Outlook app added nothing and showed no error. Add the link in Outlook on the web instead, as Microsoft suggests; it then appears in the app.
- A new course is missing from the feed. Subscribe again; Instructure says a course you enroll in after subscribing is not added otherwise.
- A Canvas assignment is not on the calendar at all. If it has no due date, Canvas lists it under Undated items instead of on a day. If your instructor has not published it yet, Instructure says it is invisible to students, so it will appear once it is published.
- A whole course is missing from the Canvas calendar. Canvas shows up to 10 courses and groups at a time and selects the first 10 for you, so a later one can be switched off. Check the box next to the course in the calendar list.
- A Canvas To Do item is missing from the feed. Instructure says To Do items are not part of it; only events and assignments are.
